day ten - educating jennifer

Well Annie, my art teacher, has had more Whatsapp messages from me than anyone else over the last few days. On Saturday from a gallery housing David Hockney's work, art materials, brushes, prints and pencils and then today asking her to guess "Where's Wally?"  She is a sharp one, our Annie, and came back within seconds with the right answer.

We had a wonderful morning and picnic for lunch at the Sculpture Park near Huddersfield. The weather was not great but we found a dry table under a huge tree and it was perfect. There was an exhibition of Henry Moore's work, interspersed with the poetry of Simon Armitage. Michael, whispered to me that these sculptures left him "stone cold" and whilst I gave him a friendly nudge and smiled at his joke, in my heart I knew he was 100% serious. He walks around a museum or art gallery in the same enthusiastic way as he walks around a shop when he does not have a purpose or a list.

I thought it was awesome. How a sculptor manages to work on a piece of stone or wood of such huge sizes is incredible. All around the park were these beautiful sculptures. Barbara Hepworth, Antony Gormley, Magdalena Abakanowicz - never heard of them before (but now I have).

Michael is now "white hot" (instead of stone cold) drinking beer, eating peanuts and watching golf - We have been home for the afternoon in front of the TV and Louis Oosthuizen was his first pick, so we are sitting on the edge of our seats. Whatever happened to Phil Mickelson and Nick Faldo (my picks)?

We are heading out to a favourite pub for supper after the golf, but for now, here are some pictures.

Amelie, Gracie and Joe

Crazy old trees.

Michael found this one interesting
Henry was not a shabby artist either (hey Annie?)

Ok off to supper. Sorry for Louis.

Delicious starter of little white bait fishies (with eyes)
Old Mill Pub for a lovely meal on our last night in Yorkshire

We have to get packed and going quite early in the morning as we are due in Leicester for lunch with Janet and will spend tomorrow night with her (and meet The Boy, Thomas). Best I get some sleep. I also need to chat to Matthew about where to meet on Wednesday afternoon when he arrives in London from Hong Kong. Yeah!! I am so excited I could platz (you thought I was going to say something else hey Dalene?)

Night, night ....
